The first rule of protection is "Avoid the Peril" However there are times when you simply cant do that. Either we are not aware of the danger of we are aware and must contine forward anyway. There are many things out there which do not always have our best intentions in mind. You will hear the term"shielding" used frequently in just about any wiccan group/circle/coven. To shield simply means to protect ones self from any danger. "How Do I do that"? you ask. Well just read along and I will explain a very basic method.
First of you you must know that Magic affects changes in our universe. This "magic" or energy will have a tendancy to draw toward it thing who are either desiring the energy you create( in the case of psy vamps or other demon type things) or it will want to add to it. ( Angels, spirits etc.) This is the basic reason we must shield ourselves. Just because you attract things does not necessarily mean you need or desire them. In the case of demons spirits and psychic vamps, you will find before you know it you have been drained of what little energy you do have. (Ever have a friend come over just as you were about to leave and go do something incredibly fun and energetic only to feel totally exhausted after they leave and find yourself longing for a nap?) Then there are the entities who are overenergetic and can cause the best intended spells to go absolutely haywire. ( In the case of guardian angels who give mom enough adrenaline to lift cars off of babies. Not that excess energy is a bad thing in this case it isnt, however most moms will tell you they collapse mentally after an event of this type)
In order to keep these types of things from happening to us in general we must protect ourselves from these forces or energies So now we are going to learn how to "raise a shield"
First you want to picture yourself blowing bubbles like we have all done with soap when we were kids. The bubbles fly around here and there and everywhere and seem to just drift along at their own pace. Next you want to see yourself blowing a very big bubble.As you blow it seems to grow bigger and bigger until you find yourself inside the bubble. You can still see outside. And you can put any part of your body outside the bubble and it doesnt pop. You can see the soap film floating around the outside of the bubble in colors of the rainbow. You plant your feet shoulder width apart inside the bubble and you can sense the enrgy of the earth underneath you. Just when you get the feel of the earths heartbeat and the energy you see a golden ray dance across the bottoms of you feet and toes. It rises slowly and advances toward your legs and thighs. It makes you feel very warm and comfy and on the brink of wanting a nice nap. You see it rise past yer arms and over your chest and feel your hair tingly with the static electricity. The inside of the bubble is glowing with this golden ray of energy now and is the color of a fireside hearth. The tingling feelling has left your body now but you can sense it in the air inside the bubble. You can see the golden light begining to stick to the bubble now. As it sticks it somehow disappears inside that soapy film until it is all gone and now the bubble has a golden glow to it. You are comfortable inside you bubble. Not to hot or to cold. You can bring in a pillow and a blanki from the outside if you need to. No matter what you bring in to the bubble it still wont burst. Nothing can get inside unless you allow it.
Wahoo!!! Did you read all of that very ,very closely? Could you feel yourself inside the bubble? If you could then congratulations! You just created your first shield!
Now that you know how to raise a shield you should know how to maintain it. You will want to spend several minutes each day thinkin about your shield. Make it comfortable make it your own special shield. Does it need a chair? Put one in then. How about a pool? Dig a hole for one then. Place whatever you need to feel comfortable in your bubble. After all it is yours and yours alone so you shoudl feel comfortable while you are in it. Once you get the hang of it you can create different shields. My own personal shield has razorwire and guarddogs:)
