Divination 1 : the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers
Divination has been around for a long time. Tools such as rune stones and dowsing rods have been found through out the world. In the 14th century it began to have a more widespread use. The most popular divination tool is the tarot deck, but there are also other techniques such as runes stones,I-Ching, Dowsing Rods, and scrying which we well discuss and define on this page.
TAROT CARDS or TAROT DECK: Put into a recognizable use and organized by Aleister Crowley and Edward Arthur Waite by creation of the Rider-Waite deck. Made up of 78 cards divided into two major sections or the Major Arcane and the Minor Arcane. The Minor Arcane is sub-divided into 4 sections of pentacles, cups, wands, and swords. Cards are shuffled and then dealt out in specific ways and then the individual meaning of the card in that position is used to determine ones future.
RUNE STONES or RUNES: polished stones or sometimes pieces of wood or plastic carved with symbols. They are either placed into a draw-string bag to be withdrawn or they can be tossed onto a cloth. Symbols are then interpreted to discern ones future. Most stones are carved in alphabetical form.
I-CHING:Chinese system of stichomancy where 3 coins are tossed. Each coin has 7 lines.Lines can be broken or solid. After tossing of coins, they are interpreted by consulting Confuscious Book of Changes.
DOWSING RODS: a forked stick or a piar of metal rods held one in each hand. The person holding item/s asks a simple yes or no question or makes a statement. If stick lowers or bends down, or if rods touch that is said to mean a yes or affirmative answer. If stick remains stable or rods remain unchanged that is said to be a no or a negative answer.
SCRYING: small bowl in a dark wood,or painted dark is filled with water. Person seeking answers is supposed to gaze into the waters reflective surface and look for images. These are then interpreted. Floating candles may be added to water along with essential oils to enhance images or light and dark reflections upon water.
